It has been two months since I’ve written to you all. I’m not writing from my desk but my bedroom in my parent’s house in Miami. Everything has changed but not even. I’m typing on the new laptop I ordered Black Friday. I had my last one for nearly ten years. Somehow, I didn’t open it until this morning. It’s like I wasn’t quite ready for the change. My old laptop’s engine purred constantly and did not have the strength to do as much as download a PDF or even clear the trash. Conveniently, it was a decent enough excuse to not use it for much more than my Girls rewatch (now complete). Opening this new one would mean a clean slate and full modern power and no excuses. Substack was the first thing I opened and I am writing straight on this platform for the first time.
This morning (it’s 1PM) is quiet and grey and no one seems to have much energy. The difference between a grey morning in Miami and New York is that it is still green. Thank god. Biscayne Bay is a short walk from me and the water laps up against the concrete at the park where I take my dogs. I’ve said it before, the best part about Miami is the blue and the green. Inescapable no matter the weather.
Oh man I have a lot to say though I have not quite found the words. In my first month of absence from here I found myself fully depleted. There was a lot to deal with and I like to think I handled it all with grace. Since then I have been recharging, recalibrating, etc. I can’t quite say that “I’m so back” but when that day comes you’ll be the first to know.
I hope you all have had a wonderful holiday season. I hope you’ve been eating deliciously. I hope you had a chance to wear that thing you’ve always wanted to wear. I hope you’ll take a moment to go see a movie in theaters. Or take a slow walk somewhere beautiful or better yet, go for a swim. Spend new years with loved ones and stuff grapes in your mouth.
Forgive me if this is completely incoherent. I’ll be back in the new year. All my love. All of it!
